Ethical Behavior for IT Professionals
Ethical, Behavior, IT, Professionals
Introduction
Ethical behavior plays a very important role in Information Technology and any other field. It demonstrates the respect of the person towards the moral principles which includes honesty, dignity and fairness. Code of conduct is pre-defined rules in any organization including principles, values and employee expectations and behavior which will be considered for the successful operation of the organization.
The dictionary meaning of ethics is rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad. Others will have trust and confidence in you as a leader in IT when someone demonstrates ethical behavior. IT organizations throughout have not only train their employees on ethical behavior and establish code of conduct and ensure and monitor among the employees.
Unethical behavior in organizations may results into undesirable outcomes for not only the organizations, tis employees but also for the customers (Eugene, 2019). Sometimes it may cause legal trouble for the organizations and resulting into damaging the reputation of the organizations.
Code of conduction in an IT organization is a management tool which is used to control over the employees, organization and its business and clarifies an organization’s mission, values and principles. Every organization issues code of conduct to its employees and expects it to be followed and the written code of conduct rules can become benchmarks to measure the organization performance (Romania).
Code of conduct earns fame for the organizations. For example, Apple’s (and the Electronics Industry’s) Supplier Code of Conduct states that “Apple is committed to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility and ethical conduct.
Apple’s suppliers are required to provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, act fairly and ethically, and use environmentally responsible practices wherever they make products or perform services for Apple (Apple, 2016).
Below are some common ethical codes are defined by IT organizations.
Summary
Code of conduct plays an important role as it clearly lays the rules in the organization on how employees have to behave and how everyone in the organization have to comply with it. Also, code of conduct serves as a framework for ethical decision making in organizations.
