Below you will find some suggested areas you can use or feel free to come up with one of your own. This discussion board will require you to describe the plate tectonic boundary it is on or near and what volcanoes or volcanic activity are associated with the area. You need to have at least one source and please do not try to copy anything from any website as I want this information to be in your own words. The grading rubric along with information on what needs to be included is given below:
15 points for length (at least 175 words)
10 points for grammar/spelling
50 points for content
25 points for which type of plate tectonic boundary. List the boundary type it is associated with now, or a boundary that it was associated with it in the past. Describe a list of features that go along with this type plate boundary.
Examples would be if you are at an ocean continent convergent boundary what is the name of the trench in the water and what is the name of the volcanic mountain chain associated with it etc. Please write this in paragraph form with an introduction sentence then several supporting sentences after.
25 points for Volcano information- Pick at least one volcano near the area you described above. This can be one active today or active in the past.
Describe the type of volcano, lava/magma type. You can pick a past eruption and describe the type of eruption that happened and how the damage was done (example were there explosive eruptions or flows?) Do geologists think it may become active again.
10 points for reporting source.
Possible Sites (You may also choose your own but be sure it has some sort of plate boundary/hot spot associated with it as well as past or present volcanic activity. Also, you will use this same site to do discussion boards in the future on earthquakes, mass wasting, geologic time and flooding.
