please reply to these students:1) Dominique Guzman (She/Her/Hers) There are all sorts of addictions throughout this world that sadly promote unwanted behavior, and this happens to be one of them. I know everybody has the right to their desires and fantasies but once it turns into reality, abusing and exploiting women physically, then it becomes an issue. This sort of action is in no way acceptable, nor do women want to be subjected to such compulsive wishes. But also, the rapid availability of pornography doesn’t help either. It places a disposable image of women at just a click of a button, teaching only thought patterns that influence their behaviors in real-life. 2) Frances Ashley DumayagWednesdayNov 3 at 10:21pmManage Discussion EntryI agree with the research in our textbook, that pornography does not promote violence against women, and tends be used as an outlet for sexual fantasy or release. People who work in the pornography industry are ultimately acting. Pornography may have many other effects on people, however, like setting incorrect expectations of how sex is performed or how our bodies should look during the act.I think it is also important to note that the textbook is only referencing pornography in terms of vanilla heteronormativity, and fails to consider pornography that displays other very real types of relationships, many of which aren’t depicted as violent. For instance, porn featuring LGBTQIA+ actors would showcase sex outside the realm of the sometimes more aggressive porn intended for heterosexual consumption. Fetish porn doesn’t necessarily have to even feature sex, but rather niche behaviors that speak to their kinks. Many CFNM or even reverse gangbang films feature vulnerable males usually at the mercy of women. In pornography featuring BDSM relationships, female dominants, or dommes, have total control of their male counterpart, and, as a side note, BDSM culture actually requires that play between partners be ‘safe, sane, and consensual.’ Though some may think pornography is degrading, sex is natural; embracing sexuality and exploring different avenues to discover what we want and like can be empowering, especially for women. If we’re asking if pornography, in all forms, promotes violence against women, it’s clear that the answer is no. There are many other things outside the world of pornography that lead to violence against women, such as not believing victims of rape, not punishing offenders due to state limitation statutes or loopholes, electing men who have committed sexual assault to the highest offices in our country, restricting women’s reproductive rights and threatening them with incarceration rather than incarcerating their rapists, etc. There are a number of things that promote violence against women, but pornography consumption is definitely not one of the leading factors when considering sexual assault isn’t even about sex at all, it’s about power and control.
