Is Social Media Use Beneficial or Harmful for Mental Health Essay
Description
For this assignment, you will write a 2-3 page paper on one of the controversial topics listed below (see “Paper Topics”). The purpose of this assignment is for you to choose a stance on a controversial issue and integrate your knowledge about rhetoric and persuasion to defend that stance. To do this effectively, you must conduct research on your topic and apply course concepts by creating a compelling and logical argument based on evidence.
What to include in your paper: Structure your paper in an organized manner so that there is an introduction, body, and conclusion.
In the introduction paragraph of your paper, make sure to clearly state your thesis/claim. Your thesis should be specific (e.g., if you were arguing that parents should be required to vaccinate their children, are you arguing that all parents should be required to vaccinate their children? Or only under certain circumstances?).
In the body of your paper, provide 3 arguments to support your thesis. Each of your 3 arguments should be presented in its own paragraph, incorporate compelling evidence, and recognize and refute potential opposing viewpoints.
▪In the conclusion paragraph, summarize your thesis/claim and your supporting arguments. In addition, go beyond these points by providing implications about your argument. What is your call to action – in other words, what should your audience do now or in the future?
Format: Your 2-3 page paper should be typed and double-spaced, use 12-point Times New Roman font, have 1” margins, and include a cover page, reference page, and in-text citations which match the templates provided to you in your Written Persuasive Appeal folder on eCampus. A copy of the rubric must be included with your paper.
References: You must use at least 6 references to support your argument/claim. All references must be cited both in-text and in the References section of your paper. Your citations and References must match the template provided to you in your Written Persuasive Appeal folder on eCampus. Examples of acceptable references include videos, blog posts, online newspapers, journal articles, and books. Wikipedia and the dictionary are not acceptable references for this paper.
Paper Topics: You must create and support an argument/claim based on ONE of the following
* Should users’ content on social media (e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) be censored?
* What is the government’s responsibility regarding retraining displaced workers (e.g., workers who have lost their jobs to automation, alternative energy, etc.)? |
* Should teachers be trained and equipped with firearms in order to prevent school shootings?
* Is social media use beneficial or harmful for mental health? |
